the memory and the nose

smells i remember:

idyllwild, outside
hot dusty pine, sun on skin, walking from air conditioning to practice, hormones in the air and a long skirt around my waist.
summer school in the morning
sullen, a little chilly, quiet, a sense of displacement, sharpened pencils.
the showers of computer camp
“passion fruit” shower gel and cold grey concrete, warm with anticipation.
summer vacation
sun coming in the kitchen windows, quiet, the smell of greeny-brown things.

they’re all related to summer and the morning.

Perhaps that is because the combination of heat and dew causes a lot of movement of damp air and thusly a lot of smell dispersal. It is a hypothesis. Also, summer mornings rock.

must've never had calculus at 8am during the summer.
